Sustainability

A sustainable corporate policy forms the basis of the company’s development. maestrani is one of four Swiss companies currently working with the University of St. Gallen on a project entitled "Guaranteeing compliance with voluntary environmental and social sustainability standards by suppliers and subcontractors".

In addition, 23 projects in the field of sustainability are currently underway at maestrani, which are being measured with more than 80 indicators. For example, only traceable or certified cocoa products are to be used from 2013/2014 onwards. The complete Sustainability Report will be available on this website in early 2013.

Our environment is important to us

The production site at 41 Toggenburgerstrasse in Flawil has achieved higher-level certification in accordance with the IFS (International Food Standard).

The International Food Standard was specified in 2003 by representatives of the European food retail sector and is used to verify and certify systems for guaranteeing food safety and quality in the production of foodstuffs. The IFS requires annual recertification. maestrani produces organic chocolate for various companies including Rapunzel (the first supplier in the world to offer chocolate made from 100% organically grown ingredients). More than 20% of the chocolate produced by maestrani is made with organic and fair trade ingredients.

Environmental management

Since the introduction of the environmental management system, the ecological efficiency of our operations is being continually measured and included in the annual planning. Targets are stipulated and the managers then draw up appropriate implementation programmes to achieve these targets.

In this way we are continually reducing our environmental impact and minimising our consumption of resources. Our achievements to date show that path we have chosen is the right one. maestrani will systematically continue to pursue it.
