Environment

Our environment is important to us

The production location in Flawil at Toggenburgerstrasse 41 is certified according to the International Food Standard (IFS) at a higher level.


The International Food Standard was established in 2003 by representatives of European food retailers and serves for the control and certification of systems that guarantee food safety and quality in the production of food products, with annual re-certification.
maestrani produces organic chocolate for Rapunzel (the first company in the world to produce chocolate with 100% organically grown ingredients). Over 10% of the chocolate produced by maestrani is made with organic or fair trade raw materials.


Environmental management

Ever since the introduction of environmental management, the ecological efficiency of our activities has been measured continually and incorporated into our annual planning. The responsible managers draw up programmes for the achievement of the objectives that have been set.

In this way we can continually reduce our impact on the environment and minimise our consumption of resources. The goals reached so far prove that we are on the right track, and maestrani will continue to pursue this course in future.

Energy consumption:
Thanks to our investment in heat recycling and cost-efficient technologies, our total energy consumption has been reduced by 14% over the past five years.

Drinking water:
The key data in this area also look promising: we succeeded in decreasing drinking water consumption by more than 75% in the last five years.

Emissions:
Owing to the gratifying energy savings and the installation of exhaust air purification devices, emissions caused by our production were significantly reduced.

Recycling:
The percentage of recycled waste was increased thanks to the effort of all our employees and reflects the increased environmental awareness in our company. We want to continue our efforts to recycle resources, aiming at improving the current recycling rate of 70% still further.

The factory in Flawil, where the fine maestrani, MINOR and Munz chocolate and confectionery specialities are produced, was constructed according to the latest building technology, insulation and heat recycling principles.
